TIME/SPACE
DECEMBER 12, 2015 - 7PM
JP Concerts - St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1 Roanoke Ave, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130
Mixed chamber ensemble Some Assembly Required began in early 2015 as a collaborative effort between Boston professional and freelance artists to provide their audience with a unique musical experience, frequently venturing into repertoire that is rarely heard in public performance.
“It was a particular and unusual pleasure to have Some Assembly Required play at my venue, The Space. Too rarely does one get to hear chamber music approached with such a sense of fun and joy while maintaining the artfulness and precision that we typically expect or at least hope for in such settings. Some Assembly Required scratches that itch and opens up the opportunity for a wider audience to enjoy a kind of music theymay not have thought they’d like.”
In TIME/SPACE, Some Assembly Required presents a wide variety of musical works to discover how composers from around the world have been influenced by these two universal elements. SAR’s performances are theatrical in nature; TIME/SPACE will be explored through our music, through interactions with our audience and choreography. With fantastic Venezuelan tubist Daniel Sanchez joining in, the ensemble will perform exciting works for brass and piano by John Stevens and Robert Nagel (USA), and Germany’s Paul Hindemith. In addition, SAR will be presenting arrangements of Astor Piazzolla’s Estaciones Porteñas (Argentina) and a collection of Brahms’ lieder (Germany).
As is true of the program, SAR’s members also come from all over the world. This concert’s five musicians come from Korea, Venezuela, the United States, and Gran Canaria.
